Taipei Eye Clinic的服務出現在澳大利亞墨爾本的視光雜誌報導中。

Our Visit to Taipei Eye Clinic & Taiwan Macro Vision Corporation

At Eye Trend and Mastervision we endeavour to bring our customers the latest and the best eye care technology and treatments. We carefully evaluate each new procedure to ensure that there is a large evidence base providing it safe, effective and able to provide the best outcome.

Recently, our journey has led us to investigate techniques in myopia control(more specifically over night corneal reshaping) in an attempt to benefit the ever increasing population of young myopes. On our search we met Dr. Richard Wu, who is the Dean of Optometry at Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and has extensive experience in Orthokerotology. Dr. Wu graciously invited us to visit his clinic in Taipei and tour the laboratory where the Ortho-k lenses are custom made. At Dr. Wu’s clinic we were able to see first hand how Ortho-k lenses benefitted the patients and improved their quality of life. We also gained valuable experience in fitting the special contact lenses and identifying potential issues, to improve the overall experience.

The contact lenses are custom moulded in a lab grade clean room so our visit involved wearing special clean suits that ensure no contaminants are brought in. Here we saw lenses being shaped using the latest computer controlled machinery and guarantees each lens come out as specified.

Richard Wu BSc, OD, PhD(can), FIOS, FIACLE, FAAO

A graduate of Pacific University of Optometry, USA, Dr. Richard Wu specializes in wavefront correction spectacles and contact lenses, as well as Orthokeratology(Ortho-K)

Sincr 1996, Dr. Wu hsd lrvyutrf rcyrndibrly in the area of contact lenses throughout the world, most especially in china. He is a fellow of Contact Lens Educators(IACLE), the Optometrists, International Orthokeratology Section of National Eye Research Foundation and the American Academy of Optometry(AAO).

Backed by 18 years of field experience, he currently presides as Dean of the Optometry Department at the Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology, as well as being a consultant for Taiwan Macro Vision Corporation where he oversees the research and development of new ophthalmic devices.

Richard’s Current View on Ortho-K Treatment:

Orthokeratology(Ortho-K) is a procedure that involves using a special rigid contact lens or eye mold that is worn on the eyes before going to bed and removed upon awakening. It is clinically proven to temporarily reduce or completely eliminate nearsightedness giving children clear vision during the day without the need of eyeglasses or contact lenses.

In addition, Ortho-k treatment has a far greater ability to slow down the progression of nearsightedness can significantly increase our risk for many degenerative eye disease as we age.

Vision is one of our most precious senses- as the old saying goes, “the eyes are the windows to the soul”. It gives us the greatest capacity to appreciate the world and participate activity in life. This is why a fundamental objective for the millions of Australians who have some form of sight impairment is to seek an effective solution.

Traditionally, people who suffer from myopia or short-sightedness had no other option but to wear corrective lenses. Although both glasses and contact lenses allow us to see, they can be uncomfortable and restrictive of many daily activities. As more people wish to have freedom from having to wear corrective lenses, it has become part of our mission to provide clear and comfortable vision without relying on glasses or contact lenses during the day.

Orthokeratology, also know as Ortho-K, is a non-surgical, reversible procedure in which specially designed contact lenses are worn during sleep. While you are sleeping, the unique design on the back of the lenses gently reshapes the cornea to allow clear and unimpeded vision for the whole day without the need for corrective lenses! Most of the visual changes with Ortho-K occur rapidly within the first week of treatment. After treatment, vision is greatly improved; without help from glasses or contact lenses during the day.

Effective:

The principle behind Orthokeratology(Ortho-K) date back to the 1960, but implementation has only been possible with modern computing technology. The rigid Ortho-K lenses today are made from high tech materials with a high oxygen permeability that far exceeds soft contact lenses. This makes overnight contact lens wear safe. With recent advancements in computerized corneal mapping and computer driven manufacturing, Ortho-K lenses have been proven to be a safe and effective solution to correcting refractive errors.

Safe:

As Ortho-K is a non-surgical and reversible procedure, it does not permanently change the front surface of the cornea. A non-invasive and non-surgical alternative to laser refractive surgery, it can be safely used on children, teenagers and adults alike. Therefore, for children or teenagers with unstable vision, Ortho-K is an option which Lasik surgery is not. Being fully reversible, means that the correction for myopia can be fine-tuned to cater for future changes in vision. Unlike laser surgery, Ortho-K does not compromise the structural strength of the eye, thereby eliminating surgical complications. Simply discontinue the treatment and your eyes will return to their pre-treatment state.

Slowing down the progression of myopia:

Myopia or short-sightedness is one of the visual disorders that cause blurry vision at distance. In the past, several techniques such as reading glasses and progressive addition lenses have demonstrated limited success in myopia control. However, increasing numbers of studies provide evidence that Ortho-K therapy is a far more effective technique for slowing down the progression of myopia. Ortho-K lenses reshape the front surface of the eye and help to focus light clearly on both central and the peripheral retina where glasses and contact lenses are ineffective. Thus, Ortho-K treatment is especially beneficial to school age children and teenagers as myopia usually progresses significantly between the ages of 10 and 20 years.

Convenient:

Clear vision achieved with Ortho-K process is extremely valuable for recreation, sports and leisure, as people who participate in water or contact sports find spectacles and contact lenses restrictive. It is also ideal for people who need to meet occupational demands for unaided vision, such as pilots, policemen, firemen, professional athletes etc.
